Juniors Town of the Day -- Chilliwack, BC

In a new feature on Saskatchewan Sodomy, we'll be profiling the small towns that make up the greater hockey community. Today, we'll be visiting the scenic environs of Chilliwack, British Columbia, population 70,000 and home to WHL's own Chilliwack Bruins.

Like most of British Columbia, wait for it, Chilliwack is known for its rain and also home to the aptly named Beaver Plastics Ltd and Johnson Packers--yes, it will make you feel like you're living in your own little snuff film. Oh yeah, also like with the rest of Canada, there are a ton of parks, and rafting, and 25 Tim Hortons per square foot. Some places rave about Chilliwack's "European cuisine," but all the most european thing I could see was the propensity of Boston Pizzas. Chilliwack is also close to the Harrison Hot Springs, an outdoor oasis which holds an annual Sand Sculpture Tournament of Champions (I'd rather watch my wall peel).

I tried to facebook a 16 year old Chilliwackian female to "get the low down" on other local activities, but then Chris Hansen showed up and well, the rest you can see on TV.

Back to hockey-The Bruins, a franchise only two years old, are led by Mark Santorelli (oh, christopha!) and Oscar Moller. Also, if interested, the website has a great deal on game worn jerseys-you can get your very own Partik Bhungal gameworn jersey for $275cdn, which seems like a real great deal to me-I like to dole out several hundered dollars on garments worn by young men who are half my age. Sickos.

Either way, to learn more about the Vancouver hinterlands of Chilliwack, go to chilliwackbruins.com and http://www.chilliwack.com/.

I'm a Douchebag (e5)

Some of our fellow hockey bloggers, who claim to have deep seated ties to the game, feel the need to waste everybody's time citing rumors that have a bullshit factor greater than Andrew Raycroft's GAA. As a regular feature, we'll calculate aforemetioned hockey blogger's rumor success rate and assess the likelihood of each.

July 24: 0-1

It was a slow day today in Narnia. Apparently Mats Sundin might go to the Habs? NFW!! Even though Mats said yesterday that he would make a decision on August 1, many of said blogger's "sources" are saying otherwise---these of course are the same voices in his head that said last week that Mats was a shoe-in for Vancouver.

Fire Renney

You blind!? He'd make a great commissioner though....perhaps I should provide supporting evidence, I suppose, that'd be fair, which sounds good - how 'bout you watch any or all of the ranger games from the previous two seasons and tell me how they play anything that could possibly be branded hockey - it is a pig circus, period, and renney needs to be fired - the only thing I saw close to the rangers, were the jackets under gallant...plus, that numbnut nylander made me drop one of my premio sausages, no homo, when he missed the open net a minute into the third of the blues' game, but anyway, I digress, and offend, but oh well, fire renney, and all this gibberish could come to an end....XOXO, Tommy Boy, don't let the knob hit'cha in the ass on the way out....you'll see, one day, one day, my friends....
As a self-deprecating Ranger fan of twenty years, the team I've loved for so long is not making any progress quickly. Stuck with a lost coach, an MIA GM, and an egomaniac owner who knows less about hockey than Gary Bettman, it appears as though it will be another 41 years until we win another Stanley Cup. So, what are the short term options? To save the the Penguins and move them to the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn! The Penguins are poised to be the next dynasty in sports yet are potentially doomed to be moved to a hillbilly market that will further destroy the image and decrease the popularity of the already floundering NHL. What better for a league in thick turmoil than to move its marquee franchise to the #1 sports market in North America. Think about the profits that could be reaped with Sidney Crosby playing in the #1 media market? With all of Mario Lemieux's concerns in buidling a new arena, he should turn to Brooklyn-the new Nets arena, the Frank Gehry designed Barclays Center will be ready for business in three seasons when the Penguins biggest starts will only be still in their early 20s!Imagine the country's most promising franchise and one of hockey's most exciting teams ever playing in New York City in the most state of the art building in the country. The possibilities are endless.
